L. S. Shreeve Jr. has lived the kind of life most people only read about. After seventy grueling days, the cousins return home to southern California with skills most adults will never have.

Then they find the cave. Hidden in the mountains, it leads to something that should not exist — living creatures from a world that vanished millions of years ago. An eccentric genius inventor named Dr. Quigley becomes their unlikely mentor, equipping them with technology that bends the rules of known science. A Native American elder brings ancient knowledge that proves just as vital. And a ruthless international organization will stop at nothing to get what the boys have found.

Beyond Time and Space

With the sting operation behind them, the boys descend deeper than they have ever gone — nearly five hundred feet below the surface, down a rope made from Dr. Quigley's impossible intelligent fabric, into a world no satellite has ever detected.

Beneath a series of vast underground domes, they find an entire civilization. A community of small people, descendants of an ancient society preserved underground for generations, have been living, farming, and waiting. Alongside them: moas, the enormous extinct birds of New Zealand, and other creatures the surface world has long written off as gone. The giants from above are welcomed, tested, and eventually trusted with something enormous: helping this hidden community prepare for a journey to an entirely new world.
